Earlier today, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for Syngenta’s plant protection products factory at the Yelets site of the Lipetsk Special Economic Zone, which will host the yet-to-be-constructed factory. The ceremony was attended by Igor Artamonov, Governor of the Lipetsk Region, Svetlana Chupsheva, Director General of the Agency for Strategic Initiatives, Jonathan Brown, Managing Director of Syngenta Russia, and Dmitri Dudarev, General Director of the Lipetsk Special Economic Zone. With RUB 1.6 billion to be invested in the factory, Syngenta will create more than 40 new jobs in Yelets. For the time being, Syngenta has established a local subsidiary, Syngenta Production, and obtained a lease for the land to accommodate its factory. The design has been completed, with documents being now reviewed by regulatory authorities. The factory’s product range will include three selective herbicides (LUMAX, ELUMIS and GARDO GOLD) and two non-selective herbicides (REGLONE FORTE and REGLONE AIR). When the first phase of the project is completed, the factory will produce around 5 million liters of these products annually. The factory is planned to be commissioned in 2021. Jonathan Brown, Managing Director of Syngenta Russia: “Russia is one of the largest markets for Syngenta in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region and one of a few markets that continue to grow consistently. Syngenta keeps increasing the amount of plant protection products manufactured in the Russian Federation. We are now following our long-term plans and remain committed to our goal of locally producing 80% of plant protection products by 2021. Construction of the factory is a major milestone on the way towards this goal.” Dmitri Dudarev, General Director of Lipetsk SEZ: “The Yelets site of the Lipetsk Special Economic Zone welcomes agribusiness tenants. We are glad to see global industry leaders like Syngenta choosing the site for locating their production facilities. And the choice is perfect: many agricultural producers nearby, excellent logistics, and a short distance to M-4 federal highway. An important thing for our region is that the new factory will create jobs for local residents.” Syngenta is a global agribusiness company and a leader in world-class research and innovative solutions for food growers. The company employs over 28,000 people in more than 90 countries. The Lipetsk Special Economic Zone hosts 62 companies from 16 countries. Their total declared amount of investments reaches RUB 196 billion. Lipetsk SEZ tenants are offered land plots to accommodate their production facilities, necessary infrastructure and utilities, and tax reliefs. By now, 23 tenants of the Lipetsk SEZ have commissioned their plants and are operating; other tenants are in the preparatory phase. Current SEZ tenants are from Germany, Netherlands, Italy, Belgium, Japan, the USA, Russia, Switzerland, South Korea, Poland, Ukraine, Israel, and China.
